Historic Farmhouse Rooms

Jan Harmsgat Country House offers 10 exclusive rooms in a 1723 farmhouse with Victorian furnishings. Each room has its own style and includes heating, air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, and a private bathroom with a freestanding bathtub in some suites. Bathrobes, slippers, and free toiletries are provided. Room 9 features a separate toilet and a king-size bed with quality linen. The honeymoon suite above the restaurant offers a thatched roof and garden views.

Fine Dining On-Site

The on-site restaurant, Just Amy, serves seasonal fine dining with fresh homemade cuisine sourced from the property's vineyards and orchards. Guests can pair meals with local wines from the cellar. Breakfast is a daily homemade spread using fresh local ingredients. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the gardens. Kids' meals and special diet menus are available upon request.

Pool and Vineyard Strolls

Guests can relax by the outdoor saltwater swimming pool with sun loungers and towels provided. The property has a large garden with a sun deck, picnic area, and outdoor fireplace. Complimentary wine tasting (for R35) features the estate's Pinotage and Chenin Blanc. Scenic cycling routes run through the farm and surrounding vineyards. For adventure, the Marloth Nature Reserve is a short drive away.

In the Robertson Valley

Jan Harmsgat sits at the southern tip of the Robertson Wine Valley, 20 km from the main wine region. Swellendam and Bonnievale are each a 20-minute drive away. The property is off the R60 road, about 30 minutes north of Swellendam. Guests can visit nearby wineries, the Breede River, and the Langeberg Mountains. Note that the main road can be noisy, especially at night.
